Mayumi Cox has over 20 years of experience in Human Resources and Organization Development, working across both operational and transformation initiatives in global organizations including Morgan Stanley, Nomura Securities, Richemont, and Royal Canin. Beyond HR system design, talent development, and leadership development, she has led initiatives that enabled HR to engage more directly with business and executive agendas, evolving its role and increasing its value contribution. She has worked extensively in situations where increasing organizational complexity slows decision-making and alignment, identifying what is happening within organizations and creating forward movement through structured thinking and dialogue.

She later founded Team Next LLC and now partners with clients across a wide range of industries—including retail, publishing, advertising, and pharmaceuticals—to support people and organizational transformation. With a core focus on co-creating the next for people and organizations, she works as a co-creator, engaging beyond titles and hierarchy. She connects the perspectives of executives, HR, and frontline teams, helping organizations articulate their desired future state and take meaningful next steps. Her work is rooted in a continued engagement with situations where the potential of people and organizations is not fully realized.

Drawing on her global HR and organization development experience, she tailors her approach to fit Japanese organizational culture and on-the-ground realities. She connects executive intent with frontline realities and translates strategy into action through dialogue and close partnership. She is particularly effective in situations where differences in perspectives or underlying assumptions prevent progress, helping to clarify these differences, build alignment, and move decision-making forward.

She is also committed to articulating and sharing her experience and insights to expand the perceived value and potential of the HR profession. She works with HR leaders to re-examine whether HR is truly engaged in business and strategic decision-making, and supports them in evolving from managing people-related processes to acting as trusted business partners who accompany leaders in making meaningful decisions.

She believes in carefully understanding organizational and individual dynamics and in creating conditions where decision-making and action can move forward even in complex situations.

Outside of work, she enjoys swimming, scuba diving, hot springs, and travel. Born in Okayama in 1976, she studied in the UK from the age of 15 and later worked in Australia, and is now based in Tokyo.
